Classic Podcast Releases Episodes Curated for Kids
Radiolab is right up there with This American Life and Freaknomics as one of my favorite podcasts of all time. Year after year, Radiolab consistently produces engrossing episodes about an amazing array of topics.
That's why their new series Radiolab for Kids is so cool. These aren't kid-versions of the regular podcast, but a selected list of episodes from their archive that are family-friendly or more easily accessible for younger listeners.
This story about the Carslie Indian School football team was especially memorable for me. In fact, when it originally aired, it inspired me to do a book study of Undefeated: Jim Thorpe and the Carlisle Indian School Football Team by Steve Sheinkin with my ELA classes.
Besides Radiolab Kids, I recommend Radiolab's "Dispatch" series of four (so far) episodes about the coronavirus pandemic and the spinoff series The Other Latif, which tells the story of a Guantanamo Bay detainee who shares the reporter's name.
