Excel!

A Reboot of my elective class is coming next school year

It's been about a week and a half since the 2021-22 school year has been put to rest. I've had a chance to binge-watch Stranger Things, hang out in Tahoe with my old college roommates for the first time in way too long, get the worst cold I've had in years, plan a vacation, and get excited about next school year.

At the top of the list of what I'm excited about is teaching two periods of Excel, the elective class I've developed for the gifted and high-achieving students at my school.

Some of the highlights:

Two of the major influences on my approach to teaching this course are what I've learned from my time with the Fulbright Teachers for Global Classrooms program and National Geographic Education's Learning Framework, specifically the Explorer's Mindset. These will basically be the lenses through which I'll look at everything I bring to the class.

Of course, I'll also be relying on the three classic ideas that inspire much of gifted education: depth, complexity, and novelty.

I'll write more about my ideas for Excel and give updates on how it all goes. I have a packed summer ahead of me, but I'm feeling more excited about the start of school than I have in a while.
