Fonts for the discriminating nerd
I have been known to fuss a bit over font choices. Some may call it being "obsessive" or accuse me of being a "perfectionist," but I prefer the term "detail-oriented." Having the right font matters. Blambot, a.k.a. designer Nate Piekos, makes some of the best fonts out there.
In fact, the title font for this website is one of Blambot's dialogue fonts, Kid Kosmic.
Blambot has dozens and dozens of fonts for sale – many of them are available for free for non-profit or independent comic use – and true font aficionados would get a kick out of spending some time browsing through the Blambot catalog.
Piekos has been in the comics industry for decades and has won numerous awards for his lettering. He's worked with most of the publishers in the comic books industry and I'm sure you'll recognize some of his fonts, such as Badaboom and Char, from signs, t-shirts, flyers, and any number of commercial uses.
Besides fonts, Blambot periodically publishes design guides, such as the one below, and the Blambot website has a resources section with articles about comic book lettering, logo design, and more.

Some Blambot fonts that I've used over and over again include Pythia, Seven Swordsmen, Ale & Wenches, and Feast of Flesh.
