Tune in live to Nat Geo Explorers
In her recent National Geographic Education Blog about the ups and downs of distance learning, Seeing The World in New Ways: Conquering Failures, Moonwalks, and Exploration During a Pandemic, middle school teacher A'ndrea Fisher writes about using Explorer Classroom with her students.
Every weekday, National Geographic explorers from all over the world give live presentations about their research. Most of the live streams start at 2:00 PM EST, and you can register to watch them as an individual, a teacher, or as a family. Selected participants can be selected to ask questions during the broadcast.
Upcoming presentations include re-tracing Ernest Shackleton’s journey, cotton-top tamarins (one of my favorite primates!), climate change, deep-sea exploration, amphibians, paleontology, and sharks. I'm especially interested in hearing from Paul Salopek talk about his Out of Eden Walk this Friday.
Each talk has a "Family Guide" which has links to background reading, videos, and graphic organizers for note-taking; discussion questions; a reflection activity; and extension resources listed by grade level.
Even if you can't watch live, all of the past events are archived on the National Geographic Education YouTube channel. There are currently over 150 videos available!
